Tips
Boots - It is time to start looking for boots. Your first priority is to look at what you have and see if they need repair. Look at the condition of the leather, the heels, and the soles. The Houston Shoe Hospital and Shoe Savers (Bissonett and Kirby) are 2 great cobblers that can fix your boots to look like new. Your main boot should be an ankle boot in black. The next should be ankle high in brown. Your next should be tall in black and then tall in brown. I would not advise boots in fashion colors - how often are you really going to wear these? Watch out for suede too. I love the way it looks, but not after it rains. Be sure to scothguard those puppies before you step into any puddles. If you have trouble with calf sizes - you can have them taken in for small calves at any cobbler and for larger calves - look at Eddie Bauer and zappos.com both carry a wide variety to choose from.
Coats - Your first priority is to make sure they are clean. If you already have the basic black overcoat, look into adding a fun color that will go with the majority of your wardrobe. We don't need heavy here in Houston, so make sure the weight of the coats you choose is appropriate for our weather. This is where you can have a lot of fun. Keeping in mind that coats are an investment that you want to last season to season, choose wisely. Pick a style that is classic and does not have too many details. Good colors to choose from are Red, Navy, dark Green, or Purple.
Don't forget to look for coupons before going out to shop. Department stores are going to have your best selection for boots and coats. Macy's runs a coupon in the Chronicle about 3 times a week. Don't leave home without it! |
